KENDALL, N.Y. (WHEC) — Kendall High School’s Alezya Brown is someone who knows how to bounce back.
"I would say that like feeling that like—accomplishment—of just like getting to the finish line and seeing how far I came," Brown said.
As spring approaches, it’s a chance for Kendall High’s Aleyza Brown to get back to a sport she’s played varsity on since seventh grade.
"Running and then, like, feeling like the runner’s high is great. It’s like my body is, like, electrocuted," Brown said.
That success has translated to the classroom, where Brown has a 94 GPA, leading to multiple scholar awards and a St. John Fisher First Generation Scholarship. It’s the direct result of motivation to break out of something that plagued her family.
"A lot of my families I grew up in like drug and gang violence is like that," Brown said. "So I’m just trying to get out of that and do something better for my life. their backgrounds and their paths are like, kind of what I don’t want. I want to do better for them."
Brown is a tri-sport athlete and hasn’t made a decision on college just yet, but she’s faced more adversity than one would want. But it’s taught her how to navigate those terrains.
"They’re things that bring like, bring me down, but I’m able to, like, go over it and accomplish what I want to do," Brown said.
And she’s accomplished a bit. Congrats to Aleyza Brown on being this week’s News10NBC Scholar-Athlete of the Week.
