GANANDA, N.Y. (WHEC) — Golf is a hobby for some but for Gananda Senior Carter Lathrop, it’s something much more.
"I mean, that feeling of just hitting one right in the middle and it’s right on line," Lathrop said. "I guess the whole the whole individuality of it, because it’s you swinging and you hit the ball."
And he’s hit the ball well. Through five years on varsity, Lathrop won team MVP, 1st Team Wayne County and finished top 10 in 14 different Junior PGA events in the area.
"Thinking about all the time and effort that everyone else has put into putting me in the best position to succeed and all the work they do for me," Lathrop said.
All of that is leading him to college next year, where he’ll go from Western To Central New York.
"And so I decided on Utica and to play there as they have a great sports management program," Lathrop said. "Love everything about it."
And there was no way golf wasn’t a part of that decision.
"It was a big part of the decision whether I was going to play there or be a part of like a PGA management program," Lathrop said.
He’s almost finished with High School Golf but it seems he’s just getting started. Congrats to Gananda High’s Carter Lathrop on being this week’s News 10 NBC Scholar-Athlete of the Week.
