CHILI, N.Y. (WHEC) — Churchville Chili Senior Emma Voglewede is an A-student who’s found time for basketball, soccer, and lacrosse. It’s a balance that didn’t come easily, especially when throwing another extracurricular into the activity wheel.
“Came to an agreement that I would do 50/50,” Voglewede said. “So I did have to make some sacrifices. I missed obviously some games and a lot of practices for competitions and suffer robotics.”
That’s become a big part of her life since taking it up freshman year.
“I didn’t really know about it until then,” she said. “I wish I knew about it sooner, but I’ve been a driver ever since my freshman year. And then actually this year I was president of the club.”
And as president of the club, she got to lead the program to a special place.
“We actually went to Houston this year for championships and there was only one in the world we ended up doing really, really well,” Voglewede added. “So I’m very proud of our team.”
Her robotics journey has taken her out of state from time to time. That’s where college will take her next year, too.
“I am committed to go to the Colorado School of Mines, which is a STEM school,” she said. “So I’m planning on studying mechanical engineering.”
She hopes to continue on the path of something she’s come to love these last few years. Congrats to Churchville Chili’s Emma Voglewede on being this week’s News10NBC Scholar-Athlete of the Week.
