HILTON, N.Y. (WHEC) — "I just got to wake up early, get the workout in," Hilton High senior Rocco Camillaci said. "It’s amazing."
It only makes sense for Hilton High’s Rocco Camillaci to have a homemade wrestling gym in his barn, after all, he was exposed to the sport at a young age.
"I started when I was about five," Camillaci said. "My cousins got me into it. They always wrestled, and now they’re in college. Two of them graduated from Binghamton and the other still going."
And that’s given him the tools to go toe to toe with anyone on the mats… and this season, beat everyone. An undefeated senior season, capped off with a state championship.
"It was really cool seeing my hard work pay off and turn my dreams to reality so it felt good," he said.
The same goes for him in the classroom. Every year, Camillaci’s 90 GPA has put him on either on the honor roll or high honor roll. His work there and on the mats is leading him to Princeton next year.
"It’s always been my mindset to just work hard," he added. "And my parents always instilled in me to work hard."
Congrats to Hilton’s Rocco Camillaci on being this week’s News10NBC Scholar-Athlete of the Week.
