ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — Spring begins today at 11:33 this morning, and well it will be a classic early Spring day for us here un Western NY and the Finger Lakes. Cloudy skies are expected with a few rain showers as well.

Temperatures will not be as warm as they have been the past few days, but highs will reach the mid and low 40s (where we are supposed to be this time of year). It will be a bit breezy through today which means at times it could feel a bit cooler with wind chills in the upper 30s. Shower chances begin to drop this afternoon and by this evening a bit of sun will be breaking through the clouds. Skies will clear tonight, but temperatures dropping into the low 30s may build a bit of fog across the region Monday morning.

A few locations may deal with limited visibility early Monday morning so heads up for that. After a possible foggy start to Monday, the sun will break out before clouds build late. Clouds Monday evening will bring a few isolated rain showers across the region early Monday night. A few rain showers may mix with some wet snow, but no accumulation is expected. Rain showers are brief as they will dry out by midnight and skies will clear once again. We look to be dry on Tuesday, but we will be tracking our next opportunity for active weather to arrive Wednesday.

An area of low pressure over the Central US will bring us showers for Wednesday. Cold air ahead of this system may allow wet snow to mix with rain early Wednesday, but the change over to all rain if that occurs will be quick as a warm front lifts north. Widespread rain, which may be heavy at times, looks probable from Wednesday afternoon into the overnight period before a transition over to isolated showers will be likely for Thursday.

No flooding concerns are expected as rainfall accumulations look to be between .25" and .75" by Thursday evening. One thing we will also notice with this system is the cool down behind it. High temperatures will go from the 50s on Thursday, back down into the low 40s and upper 30s by the weekend. There is also a chance for lake effect snow showers next weekend at this time as well. So, although Spring starts today, the chance to see snow remains in the forecast.
