State Police identify trooper who drowned Sunday

LATHAM, N.Y. (WHEC) — State troopers are mourning the death of one of their own.

The New York State Police Troop G office in Latham outside of Albany identified the trooper who drowned as he was working marine detail on the Great Sacandaga Lake on Sunday.

Police say 45-year-old trooper James Monda went into the water while at a boat launch and did not resurface. He was taken to a nearby hospital where he died.

Monda, a Schenectady County native, served with NYSP for 18 years.
