SUV fire spreads to apartments in Rochester

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) – A vehicle fire spread to a large home housing several apartments in Rochester early Friday morning.

It started around 2 a.m. at the home on East Main St. and Alexander St. The suv was engulfed and the flames jumped and climbed up the entire building right between two fire escapes. All tenants managed to get out safely, some on their own, some with the assistance of firefighters.

According to the Rochester Fire Department, the building contained about 20 single room apartments. 14 people were displaced by the fire.

No word yet on a cause.
