ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — Public libraries in Monroe County are getting thousands of dollars.

Local members of the State Assembly met outside the Fairport Public Library Tuesday morning to make the announcement.

The bipartisan effort to secure funds will support community programs, services and resources.

"For some, libraries are a lifeline,” said Assemblymember Jen Lunsford (D-Perinton). “Well-funded libraries mean high-speed internet for those who lack access. they mean assistance for filling out government forms like unemployment applications and they mean a place to research and apply for jobs."

The Fairport Public Library and Webster Public Library are getting $30,000, $20,000 is going to the Penfield Public Library and $11,500 will benefit the East Rochester Public Library.

Much of this money will be used to upgrade technology.
