Wegmans plans to open its first store in Long Island

LONG ISLAND N.Y. (WHEC) — Wegmans announced on Monday that it’s opening its first store on Long Island. The Rochester- based company agreed to buy 8.5 acres in a plaza in the village of Lake Grove to build the new grocery store.

The Wegmans in Long Island will add to the company’s 106 stores across seven states. Wegmans said it also has plans to complete its first grocery in Manhattan by late 2023.

The new 100,000-square-foot store in Long Island will be at the corner of Middle County Road and Moriches Road in a plaza. The company hasn’t announced an estimated date of completion yet.

The project come as FORTUNE magazine named Wegmans one of the ‘100 Best Companies to Work For’ for 25 consecutive years. In 2020, the company ranked #3.
