ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — After a bitter cold start to our Saturday, things will improve slightly. Wind chills will remain below zero through most of the morning before the make their way into the teens this afternoon.

The good news for today is that the sunshine will be out. Sunny skies will make it feel a little better outside, and we will not be overly gusty which means that the wind chills will not be too bad. However, bundle up and wear some extra layers out the door today as another cold day is expected. Also today, we are tracking an area of low pressure to our west which will bring us a chance for lake effect snow late this evening and early Sunday. Clouds will increase late this afternoon and the chance for an isolated snow shower or two will come this evening. Impacts to roadways are not expected tonight and a better chance for impact will come Sunday morning. Early Sunday morning should be good as winds out of the west will keep lake effect snow over Lake Ontario. Towards the late morning hours, winds will switch from the west to the north and swing a lake effect band onshore. A quick drop in visibility and a quick coating to an inch on area roadways will be possible before a few isolated snow showers are left over for the afternoon hours. Things will remain quiet into Monday before another Arctic front swings through early Tuesday.

this front will bring us another chance for snow shower late Monday and into Tuesday, but minor accumulations are expected through Tuesday. the bigger story with this front will once again be the cold as temperatures drop into the single digits Tuesday night and remain near 10 degree Wednesday afternoon before dropping below zero Wednesday night. Lake effect snow will also set up on Wednesday with light accumulations possible. The cold will continue through the remainder of the week with afternoon highs in the 20s through next weekend, and we will also be watching the East Coast for some unsettled weather into next weekend as well. Uncertainty remains high at this moment, but there is the chance for an impactful winter storm along the East Coast sometime next weekend. Make sure you follow along with the First Alert Weather Team through this week for updates on the cold and if we see any impactful snow next weekend.
