ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — News10NBC has received another Good Question about masks in schools.

April wanted to know “if they're looking into face shields for kids at all and if those might be safer since they protect students' eyes, and students with asthma may be able to breathe more comfortably wearing a face shield all day than a mask."

It's addressed in all the new guidelines.

In short, a face shield by itself isn't good enough and that won't be allowed. Students can wear them if you want even more protection, but you have to have a regular mask on underneath it.

Remember, kids will get breaks at school from wearing masks.

There is that other exemption for students with underlying health conditions or special needs who might not be able to wear a mask. You're encouraged to reach out to your doctor and school district to come up with a plan.

The blueprints from schools do focus on that and the measures are included in their FAQ pages.

You can find and other back to school information here.
