ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — One local church is working to keep kids stocked up for school no matter how they'll be learning this year.

The Seventh-Day Adventist Church on Jefferson Avenue held its Seventh Annual Back To School Giveaway on Sunday.

Volunteers handed out backpacks filled with binders, pencils, and other necessities for the school year.

With the coronavirus keeping some out of the classroom, church leaders know that not all parents will have all the supplies they need at home.

"We know that COVID-19  has created lots of job loss for families," says church clerk Angela Tucker-Hill. "And we wanted to be able to still show that there's hope and that our church is willing to step in and fill in the gap and provide assistance for families that are in need."

Any leftover supplies were to be donated to the George Mather Forbes School for when children get back to in-person learning.
