ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — It's been more than weeks since the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention updated its social distancing guidance for schools, but New York State hasn't followed suit.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo has been pressed by schools needing the change to 3-foot social distancing in order to reopen further.

Monday when he was asked once more when there will be an answer, he said: "Within a week."

"The reason it is taking time is it is very controversial and I would just suggest you note that," Cuomo said. "Because if you take one position, you will get many comments, I promise you."

New York State Health Commissioner Dr. Howard Zucker said each school has different classroom environments, so the state has been consulting individual school districts about the decision, but the New York STate Department of Public Health is finalizing its review.
