Geena Davis and Margaret Cho make for star-studded U of R Meliora 2021 Weekend

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — The University of Rochester Monday kicked off its Meliora 2021 Weekend Friday and will continue Saturday.

On Friday night, comedian, actress, entrepreneur, advocate, and author Margaret Cho performed.

Geena Davis is scheduled to give the commencement address on Saturday. Davis is well-known for her roles in “Thelma and Lousie” and “Beetlejuice”, and she’s also the founder and chair of the nonprofit Geena Davis Institute on Gender in Media, which seeks to increase the representation of women in media while reducing stereotyping.

There will also be academic lectures and programming, a social village with food trucks and live music.

Meliora 2021 Weekend will be the first large alumni event of the academic year and it will be designed especially for the Class of 2020, parents and families, and reunion classes whose year of graduation ends in 0, 1, 5 or 6.

It will also be the first reunion celebration for the Class of 2021.
