GREECE, N.Y. (WHEC) — Starting next week, the Greece Central School District will no longer require students, employees, volunteers or visitors to wear masks during outdoor activities when social distancing is possible.

The new rule will go into effect on Monday, June 7, and includes physical education classes and recess.

In an email to the Greece Central community, Superintendent Kathleen Graupman said she feels confident making the change due to

Greece’s “historically low” COVID-19 positivity rate, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s stance about masking outdoors, and the New York State Department of Health’s acknowledgment that masking may not be medically tolerable in extreme heat.

Masks will still be required when inside our schools and on buses, even for those who are vaccinated.

Masks will also still be required for outdoor events taking place this weekend, including proms and athletic contests.
