ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — Nazareth College is joining the list of local colleges and universities that are now require students to get a COVID shot before coming back to campus in the fall.

The requirement extends to faculty and staff, too.

The move matches similar efforts at some private schools like RIT, the University of Rochester, Cornell, Ithaca, and Syracuse. Like the other schools, religious and medical exemptions will be allowed.

Nazareth says it made the decision based on a recommendation from the American College Health Association, which is advising all schools to add a vaccine requirement.

For public schools, New York plans to add a vaccine requirement, but must wait until the vaccines get full federal approval. Private schools are exempt from that rule.
