ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — Nearly 100 houses of worship and other community organizations came together to donate food packages for the families of about 800 Rochester City School District students.
The collaboration is a part of the Faith in Action: Adopt a School program, which was launched in the fall by Mayor Lovely Warren, and RCSD Superintendent Dr. Lesli Myers-Small.
Wegmans helped put the food baskets together, which were then loaded onto trucks Thursday morning.
"We all know there is, with the COVID there is a need for food," Ricky Frazier, a volunteer coordinator said. "Rochester is the third-largest city on poverty, so we're just meeting the need of our neediest students and we're so grateful and thankful we're able to meet that need today."
The food will be distributed through the schools and several local churches.
