PITTSFORD, N.Y. (WHEC) — The Pittsford Central School District Monday invited parents to start taking a survey about their preferences when it comes to masking in the future.

The message to parents mentions the ongoing court battle over whether Gov. Kathy Hochul’s statewide mask or proof of vaccination mandate for indoor public places, including schools violates the state’s constitution or not. She recently extended the policy through Feb. 10. Though Judge Thomas Rademaker's ruling on Jan. 24 ruled the mandate could not be enforced, his ruling was stayed through the appeal process.

Though, the district said regardless of that case’s outcome, “there will be a time when we are fully approaching COVID-19 as an endemic versus a pandemic” and “it is becoming increasingly evident that the District will be contending with this virus for the foreseeable future and needs to manage how we reasonably and appropriately respond within schools and the community”.

The district sent parents the survey via Qualtrics email on Monday. It closes at midnight on Friday, Feb. 4.

Though, for now, the district says masking will remain mandatory until the Board of Education takes action.
