RCSD superintendent attends executive budget hearing

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — A series of hearings on the upcoming executive budget continued Wednesday and the Rochester City School District had a seat at the table.

Superintendent, Dr. Lesli Myers-Small was there for RCSD.

The big five school districts were asked about their needs versus what is in the proposed budget.

Myers-Small talked about school safety, emotional health, COVID costs and declining enrollment.

"The district’s school health services funding has not kept pace with student’s mental health needs and social-emotional needs,” Myers-Small said. “Additionally we are asking for school health services reimbursements to meet the needs created by COVID. Addressing nurse and staff shortages."

The superintendent said while the fiscal strength of the district is improving, their needs have been changing with COVID and with an increase in charter schools.
