STEUBEN COUNTY, N.Y. (WHEC)—  Stueben County will adopt a new option for people in close contact with someone who has COVID, the county's Department of Health announced.

The county will use the "test to stay" option, which allows students in close contact with someone who tested positive for COVID to avoid having to quarantine at home. That student would have to test negative, by way of a daily rapid test, for at least seven days after the initial exposure.

The option was one of a few the New York State Department of Health included in its updated guidance which allows county health departments to choose how to handle certain protocols.

Monroe County is looking into test to stay, but has not announced any changes.
