ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC)— Two area schools have joined the list of institutions that will require students to be vaccinated for COVID-19 before the fall semester.
In different letters, both Syracuse University and Ithaca College announced the new policy. Syracuse Chancellor Kent Syverud said all students who will be on campus this summer will have to be vaccinated, and any new and returning students will have to be vaccinated before the semester.
Both schools say medical and religious exemptions will be accommodated, but the expectation is for "a vast majority" students to get the shot.
It follows a similar announcement made by Cornell University last week.
Ithaca says it plans to have full in-person classes come fall, but will still offer online instruction.
Syracuse will be offering on-campus vaccines.
