ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — There's been a surge of coronavirus cases in Steuben County with most of them coming from nursing homes and schools.

There were 23 new cases reported in the county Monday. Of those cases, four are employees of Corning Center Nursing Home, one is a resident, one is a student at Prattsburgh High School and another is an employee of Corning-Painted Post Middle School.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo says he's deploying rapid result testing machines to address the recent uptick in cases. Most of them have been downstate.

This comes after the state's infection rate spiked to 1.5%.

Currently, in the Finger Lakes Region, the infection rate is at .6%.
