VICTOR, N.Y. (WHEC) — A nationwide effort to help businesses devastated by coronavirus is now coming to the rescue of a Victor daycare.
The Victor Child Care Center is the latest local business to get a grant from pop culture and sports website Barstool Sports.
The business has been struggling and saw the number of kids it looks after shrink by more than 90 percent since the start of the COVID pandemic. While owner Laurie Lavery wasn't a fan, her kids and grandkids were, and they asked Barstool for help.
"It's been very scary," says Lavery of the pandemic. "Personally, I have taken a lot of personal debt in order to make sure. There are weeks I didn't paychecks because I want to make sure my staff I paid. So this will hopefully help us get back on track and help get some of that taken care of. It's been scary. It's devastating to somebody who's had a business for long and to go through this with no fault of our own."
Barstool had already come to the rescue with funds for Durf's Family Restaurant in Fairport.
Lavery says she already has a list of debts and this month's expenses that she'll try to tackle with her Barstool grant, and she'll be talking with the folks at Barstool about whether that assistance may be coming for another month.
