ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — Monroe County is seeing a spike in new COVID cases.

Just last week, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention placed the county in its high risk category.

News10NBC spoke with Monroe County Executive Adam Bello Thursday about the plan to curb the spread.

"We are in a different phase," Bello said. "What we see with this new variant that we have here is that it’s highly transmissible but it’s also not leading to that same level of hospitalizations that previous variants have."

The county executive said while the numbers are high, nearby counties like Erie and Onondaga are averaging about the same amount.
