ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — The rise in COVID-19 cases is hitting one Rochester nursing home especially hard.
The number of residents who have tested positive for COVID-19 at the Episcopal Church Home has almost doubled in two days.
On Wednesday, 14 residents had tested positive for the coronavirus.
As of Friday, the number is 27 and one resident has died.
Fourteen staff members are COVID-positive as well.
Episcopal SeniorLife Communities released the following statement on the situation Friday:
"We are greatly disappointed that after 8 months of fighting this virus, it has infiltrated our community and touched our residents. We are committed to doing everything we can to protect those in our care, and are following all DOH and CDC guidance. We are continuing to try to limit any spread, and our staff are adhering to all infection control procedures including increased sanitation practices and the diligent wearing of PPE. We remain committed to transparent communication and continue to keep our residents, families and employees informed of any confirmed cases through personal phone calls, letters, emails and conference calls. We appreciate the support and dedication to all those who support Episcopal SeniorLife Communities."
