NEW YORK (WHEC) — New York State will put out COVID-19 guidance for homeless shelters, Gov. Andrew Cuomo promised Monday.
A number of local governments closed shelters because of the coronavirus.
Now, the governor is urging them to reopen COVID-safe shelters.
He says we know how to reopen restaurants and schools and we know how to reopen shelters.
"Nobody should be living on the street, especially in the middle of a global health pandemic,” Cuomo said. “The public is anxious for their own public health and I understand that. I'm anxious about the health of homeless people."
The governor says the state will put out guidance to reopen homeless shelters early this week.
