Cuomo to receive International Emmy Founders Award for daily briefings

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — Gov. Andrew Cuomo will receive the International Emmy Founders Award this year because of his COVID-19 briefings.

Between March 2 and June 19, Gov. Cuomo held 111 daily briefings to update New Yorkers on the coronavirus pandemic in the state as well as new measures being implemented to slow the spread.


According to The International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences, the Founder’s Award is presented to an individual or organization who “crosses cultural boundaries to touch our common humanity.”

Former vice president Al Gore, Oprah Winfrey and Steven Spielberg are among previous winners.

The awards show will be live-streamed on Nov. 23 at 11 a.m. on the Academy’s website.
