ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — What's going on with two of the biggest events of the summer in upstate New York?
The Finger Lakes Wine Festival and NASCAR's race weekend at Watkins Glen both bring in tens of thousands of fans, something Governor Cuomo says is a problem and puts them in doubt.
These types of events would be among the last to get cleared with the reopening, so is hosting them this year even realistic? A viewer named Peter asked News10NBC’s Brennan Somers: Is this still going to be allowed to take place this July?
Somers checked their website and no real answer could be found.
Check the event's website and you'll see "The Party of The Summer Returns July 10-12, 2020!"
Somers reached out to organizers and got this response from Michael Gardner public relations at Watkins Glen International.
“As of today [Monday 5/11] the Finger Lakes Wine Festival is scheduled as planned and we are working with NASCAR and local and state officials on a variety of options for our NASCAR weekend. Our President Michael Printup said he is confident the weekend will be held in August, though there’s a chance there will be no spectators. Fans or no fans, there will be need for additional precautions for any race weekends. Among the bullet points are disinfecting bathrooms at least twice a day and constant sanitization of them as they are used."
