Good Question: Where can I dispose of my recalled sanitizer?

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — Friday’s Good Question report is about hand sanitizer.

Phil says: “It’s been a repetitive story on your station and others as more and more brands are banned, yet there is no official guidance on how to ‘safely dispose’ of this bad hand sanitizer. What should we responsibly do with it?”

That’s a question many people have with the FDA’s ever-growing list of hand sanitizer recalls because of safety concerns.

The state DEC says you should take recalled products to a local household hazardous collection center. In Monroe County, that’s the ecopark near the airport.

You don’t need an appointment to drop off old or recalled sanitizer, but you need to show up during regular hours. The ecopark is open from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Wednesdays and from 7:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturdays.

There’s also a separate self-serve container you can use to get rid of what you have.
