GREECE, N.Y. (WHEC) — Saturday was the one-year anniversary of the pandemic food distribution partnership between the Greece Central School District and Foodlink.
To celebrate the occasion, a team of volunteers did what they have been doing: distributing food to families in need. They gave boxes of food to more than 300 families on Saturday, just as they have been doing twice a month for the last year. Overall, they've handed out over 10,000 total boxes.
Each box has enough food in it to last for two weeks.
"When this first started we were like we need to do something for our families. They're going to be food insecure, they're going to have needs, they can't get what they need. and so we started thinking it was going to be a one or two-week process and every month we were like hmm seems like we still need to keep doing this," says Kelly Sperduto of the Greece Central School District.
Greece Superintendent Kathleen Graupman and the entire Board of Education made a surprise visit to say thank you to the volunteers as they assembled the boxes.
