AVON, N.Y. (WHEC) — Eighteen local fire departments in Livingston County handed out masks to the public on Saturday.

Firefighters from both the East Avon and Avon fire departments teamed up to hand out the protective gear at one site.

People were allowed two masks per car, depending on the size of the family. A total of 1,400 masks were handed out, along with advice from fire chiefs.

"Just conform to stay safe," said East Avon Chief Chris Batzel. "Continue to wash your hands, obviously, social distancing is big especially this weekend, just continue to do what the CDC recommends and we'll get through this as soon as possible. We just like you want this to end just as soon as possible."

A total of 11,500 cloth masks were handed out across Livingston County on Saturday.
