MVP Health Care offering at-home COVID testing

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — If you need an immediate COVID test, or a lab work-up, you might not have to leave your house to do it. If you have insurance through MVP Health Care, you qualify.
The company is partnering with other healthcare systems so instead of going to the doctor’s office, they’ll come to you. This MVP service is free to members.
"You might be stuck home, in quarantine, or exposure situation, they’ll come to your house, instead of you having to go out into the community and find a testing source,” Dr. Kimberly Kilby said, with MVP Health Care.
MVP Health Care has partnered with Scarlet Health, which is a digital platform that specifically provides specimen collections.
"Which will bring phlebotomists out to peoples home and also the office if that’s a preferred location to get any blood test ordered by a doctor,” Kilby said.

Not just blood work — but they’ll provide a COVID PCR test and collect that too. MVP works with providers across New York State and Vermont. If you choose this route, here is what you’ll need to do, first you pick where you want the PCR test to be done, home or work is an option. Then you pick a time, and like an Uber, you can track where your health care professional is and when they’ll be at your front door.
"There is a lot of interaction back and forth to prepare you for the visit,” Kilby added.
Access to on-demand COVID tests is critical. Similar to what MVP is doing, Gov. Kathy Hochul’s Office will be launching a "testing portal" in the near future.
"Where New Yorkers can access at home PCR tests, they’ll be mailed over night by mail, you swab yourself you put it back in a pre paid envelope and you get results within 48 hours,” Jackie Bray said, the Commissioner of the New York State Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Services.
Governor Hochul’s office says it is still finalizing a launch date for the testing portal and expect to have more details by the end of this week. The state says it’s getting 10 million more at-home COVID tests.
