ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — New York State is launching the Excelsior Pass in an effort to fast-track the reopening of businesses and event venues while following New York State Department of Health guidelines.
The pass will be able to be used to verify COVID-19 vaccination status or negative test results as needed to gain entry to major stadiums and arenas, wedding receptions or other events above the social gathering limit.
The state says it will work similarly to a boarding pass at an airport, with users being able to print out a physical pass or use a QR code on their phone to verify proof of COVID-19 negative test results or vaccination.
Madison Square Garden in New York City will start using it beginning next week and the Times Union Center in Albany, according to the state. The pass will expand to smaller arts, entertainment and event venues beginning April 2.
