NY handing out $9M in grants for live performance venues

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — New York is giving a boost to the performing arts.

The state is handing out $ 9 million in "Restart NY: Rapid Live Performance Grants" to help 773 groups across the state with live performances. There will be four rounds of grant awards.

Several local organizations are getting a piece of the pie, including Geva Theatre Center, Garth Fagan Dance, and the Rochester Fringe Festival.

At least 60% of each grant is meant to be used to pay artists.
