ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — The New York State Dental Association announced Friday that dental offices are included in Phase Two of reopening, however, New York State's website still says dental offices can only open for emergency procedures.

An announcement from the NYSDA said dentistry is included under the category of “professional services.”

Because dental offices are seen as high-risk, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has issued guidelines to try and curb the possible spread of COVID-19 in dental offices for when they do reopen.

They include:

  • Screening patients over the phone for COVID-19 symptoms before scheduling appointments.
  • Asking patients to limit the number of people in waiting rooms.
  • Masking in waiting rooms.
  • Screening patients for COVID-19 symptoms in-office before operations.
  • Taking patients’ temperatures.
  • Asking patients to make dental offices aware if they test positive for COVID-19 within 14 days of their visit.
