ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — New York announced more than $100 million in additional SNAP benefits for September.
SNAP stands for Supplemental Nutritional Assistance Program. It's commonly known as "food stamps."
The money is to help New Yorkers impacted by the pandemic avoid food insecurity.
About 700,000 low-income individuals and families enrolled in the SNAP program will receive additional food benefits to bring them up to the maximum allowable amount for September.
