ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — City and county officials are urging people facing possible eviction to apply for emergency rental assistance.

Tuesday, Rochester Mayor Lovely Warren was joined by Monroe County officials to announce a pilot program.

The city and county have almost $40 million set aside in rent relief funding. Residents can call 211 to apply for aid.

"We do not want to see this housing crisis loom in our community," Warren said. "This money can help us avert that crisis."

The New York State moratorium on evictions, passed in response to the coronavirus pandemic, is scheduled to be lifted on May 1.
