ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — Rochester Regional and UR Medicine will require the universal wearing of masks in patient care areas beginning Tuesday night in an effort to reduce the transmission of coronavirus.

All medical providers, staff, and visitors in health care facilities will be required to wear a surgical mask at all times when they are in public, clinical areas. The measure will officially begin at 7 p.m.

URMC and Rochester Regional say that the measure is a "preventative strategy" to keep health care workers safe and slow the increase of COVID-19 cases.

More details are expected in a press conference over Zoom on Tuesday morning.
