PITTSFORD, N.Y. (WHEC) — St. John Fisher College is delaying the start of the spring semester.

In a message to students Wednesday,  the college says the majority of courses for undergrads and grads will begin on Feb 1. 2021, and continue through May 1.

There will not be a spring break.

Fisher sent students home for the remainder of the fall semester last week, after a coronavirus outbreak on campus.

The rest of the semester is fully remote.

Students News10NBC spoke with Wednesday said this news was not surprising and they understand why they can't have a spring break.

"I do like the mental break, you kind of need an off day here and there, especially when you're taking rigorous classes, but at the end of the day if that's what the school thinks is the best decision to make to get us on campus then that's what we have to do," sophomore Brandon Smith said.

Commencement is scheduled for May 8. The school has not decided whether it will be virtual or in-person yet, but says it will follow state and county guidelines on large gatherings.
