ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — U.S. Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer Thursday announced that Canada will remove molecular COVID-19 testing requirements for Canadians who are traveling to the U.S. for fewer than 72 hours.
Schumer said Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau also told him he will start working to remove testing requirements for vaccinated Americans traveling to Canada.
Currently, vaccinated travelers have to show a negative pre-arrival molecular coronavirus test no more than 72 hours before they arrive at the border.
Schumer says those tests can cost $100 to $300 and they aren’t always easily accessible.
He did not provide a projected timetable for when the requirement will be lifted.
