ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — Social Security Commissioner Andrew Saul issued an update Monday for Social Security recipients about how they can receive COVID-19 Economic Impact Payments for Beneficiaries.

The Department of Treasury, not the Social Security Administration, will make automatic payments to Social Security beneficiaries, Saul said. Those payments will be received by direct deposit or by paper check, just as they would normally receive their Social Security benefits.

Those who receive Social Security do not need to file an abbreviated tax return to receive their payment.

Tax-paying residents will receive their stimulus check from the IRS.

Saul says exact details on how the stimulus check will impact SSI recipients are still being worked out, but that future benefits will not be impacted.

The IRS and Social Security websites will continue to be updated.
