ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — State senators passed a package of new legislation Monday for greater transparency and oversight of nursing homes.

Included in the package is a bill to allow compassionate caregiving visitors at nursing homes even in times of an emergency, like a pandemic.

There's also legislation that would force facilities to make outbreak cases and fatalities public.

Another bill would require nursing homes to spend 70% of their revenue on direct patient care.

The Assembly versions of the bills have not been passed yet.
