LYONS, N.Y. (WHEC) — A young girl from Lyons is brightening her neighbors’ day to help them during the coronavirus crisis.
“I opened it up and it was the nicest note,” Lyons community member Robin Lead said.
Lead was surprised to find a package at her front door with a card and some candy with a special note.
“Inside the candy was a red and green sign,” Lead said. “You were to put the green side out which said good if you were okay in the house, but if you need help you hang up the red sign in the window and young little Rieley is going around and checking them making a list of what you need and she helps gets those items for you,” Lead said.
The idea sparked by 10-year-old Rieley Cermak to help her neighbors during the coronavirus crisis.
“The card says, ‘Wishing you well Lyons Strong 2020,’” Cermak said.
Cermak said she hopes to bring a new perspective and a smile to the community during this outbreak.
“People are dying from the coronavirus and I just want to cheer up their day and not listen to all that,” Cermak said.
She said she’s planning on giving for as long as possible during these tough times to help whoever is in need without wanting anything in return
“I like helping other people and people love when I help them,” Cermak said. “It says to me people need more help than just keeping, so I give and not keep.”
Reiley said so far no neighbors have put up the “help” sign but said she’s ready to get whatever they need if one does.
