Good Question: No more road tests offered in Rochester?

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — Let’s answer a good question about where you can take a road test in the city of Rochester.

I got this question from a parent trying to get his daughter behind the wheel. Brian said:

“When did the NYS DMV Stop conducting road tests at Emerson and Glide and other inner city locations? My son took his at Emerson and Glide about 5 years ago, but tried to schedule my daughter recently and it’s no longer available. Nor any other location within city limits.”

It’s a good question because oddly enough we did a recent Good Question on the DMV and road tests, back in August when we saw driving tests still happening at that Emerson location.

The NY State DMV told me:

“The Emerson and Glide test site in the City of Rochester was relocated to Northland Avenue, which is also in the City of Rochester. The Northland site was more accommodating to both customers and DMV staff.”

When you check online, you’ll see this is still the only regular road test location the state DMV runs in Rochester other than for CDL’s at the Kodak parking lot on Lake Ave.

The others in Monroe County are in Brockport, Churchville, and East Rochester.

If you’re wondering about the county DMV and those branches, while they do offer many other types of services the road testing or applications for restoring revoked licenses are handled directly by state offices.
