ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) —Restaurant and bar owners in New York can now apply for federal aid set aside in the latest COVID relief package.
$28.6 billion in relief is available, and the available money is to cover COVID-related losses from this year and last. Each restaurant could receive up to $5 million, and it's first-come, first-serve for those who apply.
U.S. Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer says hundreds of restaurants in NY are at risk of closure without these funds.
"Hopefully, at some point in June, money will be in our restaurateurs' hands so they can stay alive, stay open until god-willing COVID is over and the streets are full and the restaurants are full once again," Schumer said.
Restaurant owners tell us the cash would help, but it's still a long road to recovery for the industry.
