Travel safety tips for an out of town getaway amid COVID-19 pandemic

(WHEC/WNYT) — Is it safe to hit the road for an out of town getaway? That's a question many are asking as the number of states reporting an uptick in cases of coronavirus keeps climbing. Experts say it depends on where and how you're traveling.

Dr. David Pratt, preventive medicine specialist, suggests day trips and adhering to the behavior we've come to associate with lowering the risk of infection. That includes wearing a mask, sanitizing your hands at a gas station pump, or in the store.


Banking on a bigger getaway? Can you safely say in a hotel? Pratt says probably yes, and hotels are doing all they can to ensure safety with lots of cleaning and disinfecting.

Dr. Pratt says if you plan to fly, while the airlines have done their best to ensure safety, be aware of the time you spend in congregate areas like lines to get through security, escalators, and waiting areas.
