Caledonia man arrested after car theft spree

CALEDONIA, N.Y. (WHEC) — Livingston County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested a Caledonia man who they say is behind a stolen car spree across several towns.

The sheriff says Joshua Sumeriski, 18, was connected to at least four car thefts that occurred in June and July in Caledonia, Batavia, York and Java.

On Monday, Sumeriski was charged with two counts of felony third degree grand larceny, third degree criminal possession of stolen property, felony tampering with evidence, fifth degree conspiracy and third degree unauthorized use of a vehicle.

He was arraigned and released on his own recognizance.

Deputies say the investigation is ongoing and more arrests are possible.
