Woman hospitalized and 3 first-responders injured in Livingston County fire

CALEDONIA, N.Y. (WHEC) — A woman was hospitalized and three first responders were injured while working a fire in Livingston County on Saturday night. 

The fire started around 7:30 p.m. Pictures from the scene near Caledonia Avon Road in Caledonia showed flames coming through the roof of an apartment building. One law enforcement officer and two firefighters sustained minor injuries while responding,

One person was trapped by the flames and had to be rescued from an upstairs apartment and was then rushed to the hospital. There is no report on the person's condition at this time. 

Cathy Kaiser, a witness told a News10NBC photojournalist that a woman had been trapped in the building, who may have been the person extricated.

"We were here for at least 45 minutes watching them try to get her out. And they actually ended up having to cut a part of the outside wall out of the house in order to bring this woman out of the house," Kaiser said. "During the course of trying to get her out of there you could watch the fire come from the back of the house and you could see come right over the room where she was."

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
