Deputies: Dansville man charged with assault, kidnapping in Steuben County incident

BATH, N.Y. (WHEC) — A Dansville man was arrested after deputies say he held and transported another person against their will, assaulted another person with a knife and crowbar and recklessly endangered another person in the town of Bath last week.

It happened on Aug. 12. Deputies say the person who was assaulted was treated at the scene, and then taken to the hospital for treatment, before being released.

The Steuben County Sheriff’s Office says that on Aug. 13, they arrested James B. Hilligus, 47.

Hilligus was charged with three counts of second degree assault, first degree reckless endangerment and second degree kidnapping.

He was arraigned and remanded to the Steuben County Jail in lieu of $1,000 bail.
