ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — Monroe County has seen a wave of 14 carjackings that law enforcement officials say they believe are related, but it’s not the only county in the area seeing an increase.

Livingston County Sheriff Tom Dougherty Wednesday issued a safety alert involving stolen cars there as well.

Dougherty says a group of suspects has targeted people who have posted their vehicles for sale on Facebook marketplace.

The suspects responded to ads in Caledonia and Geneseo, and stole the cars after saying they wanted to take them for a test drive.

Dougherty says the group is considered very dangerous.

The sheriff advised people to use the sheriff's office safe transaction zone located at 4 Court St. in Geneseo when selling to an unknown person. It’s open all day, every day and you can dial  243-7100 and ask a deputy to step outside and watch the transaction.

Anyone with information is encouraged to call the tipline at 585-243-7100.
